The Musical Divide

Nothing like promising you’ll get back to writing about music this year and not living up to that promise thus far, huh?

Now, that’s not entirely true. I’ve actually kept up fairly well with 2025’s new releases and have offered loose thoughts on them … just not here. The good news about this year, at least for just me, is that I’ve been far more actively engaged with new music this year - compared to last year where I just mostly burned out. The bad news is that I still haven’t found the spark again for actually, you know, writing about new music, which is kind of important for this sort of endeavor.

I do want to apologize for that, and I also want to say that I genuinely hoped to get fully back into the swing of things this year. But between still just no longer having the sort of time for this sort of outlet like I used to as well as other personal changes, I’ve just never been able to find a writing style that I’m satisfied with like I did from 2018-23. I have, however, kept a log of my thoughts on new releases - and will continue to - over at Rate Your Music. These are, admittedly, much shorter blurbs and meant to be much looser than traditional reviews (in terms of structure, I mean), but I’ve honestly come to really like the style and have found it to work really well for me and where I’m at right now with things.

So … that’s probably where I’ll end up posting my thoughts on things from now, rather than here. I do want to apologize again to anyone who was looking forward to this blog’s return. Again, I gave it the best effort I could. Until the next time, stay safe, and listen to whatever makes you happy.
